Commodore's Welcome - Terry Edgell
Welcome to Red Eye Yacht Club (R.E.Y.C) and thank you for your interest in our club. Once again I would like to thank the membership for their support over the past few years. I hope that you will continue your support for another year as I serve the Club as your Commodore. I had a great time at the REYC Ball and look forward to many more good times this coming year. Our Ball on October 12th marks 50 years in the yachting community. In the last (also my 1st) general membership meeting, I announced I have openings for my committees for the upcoming year. I have had an overwhelming response. For those unable to attend the meeting, I will name them again. Please join me in thanking them for their service to our Club. They are:
- Membership Chair - Ken Zeisloft
- Membership Committee - Jerry Wetzel and John Cashman
- Sick and Welfare/Display Case - Jerry Wetzel/Donna Mixer
- Entertainment Officer and Kitchen Manager - Judy Zipkin
- Finance Committee - Myself, Treasurer Shirley Davie, PC Bill Hill, and PC Steve Rockel
- Webmaster/Technology/Signs - Ned Featherston
- By-Law Chairman - John Terzigni; By-Law Committee - Bill Freeburger and Ray Witmer
- CBYCA Rep - Vera Gortowski
- YCM Rep - Jill Cashman
This week the finance committee began working on the budget proposal for next year. At the December membership meeting the budget will be discussed and brought before the membership for approval. Please plan to attend. That same evening we will be having a member pitch in Christmas gathering. No dinner will be served that night, so bring a covered dish and join in the festivities.
While I was late getting to the Club last Saturday due to attending a Ball for Riverside YC, things were still going pretty strong at the 2nd Annual Pig Roast. From the feedback I received, it was a howling good evening. I would like to thank P/C Jerry Selig and P/C John Cashman and everyone associated with helping to make this event so successful. I would also like to thank everyone that came down to support the event. Well done.
Fall has arrived and we have just under a week before it is time to winterize the Clubhouse and Piers. This is always a very important task and one that is much easier done with the help and support of our membership. Please come down and support this effort on Saturday Nov. 9th.
Very soon boats will be winterized, some will be relocated, and some will be temporarily blocked up on land. The Club is undergoing major renovations to both the inside and outside. This means that the building will be inaccessible. However, that does not mean the parties will stop. Our annual Land Cruise is scheduled for Saturday, March 15th, 2014 where we will visit many of our sister clubs. I also hear there is an Atlantic City Bus Trip in the works!
I look forward to my upcoming administrative year. I am honored to be your Commodore during a very special time, our 50th Anniversary. Our Opening is sure to be one for the record books. I look forward to the many planned events throughout the next couple of months, especially the CCC's Commodore Ball in Ocean City, MD. Our theme this year will be "Hollywood Squares"!
